    I called Toshiba about this and was told to download the manual for the D-R550. The Toshiba rep said that it is basically the same unit except for the fact that the D-R550 has a tuner and the D-R400 does not. If you're using a cable box, you don't need the tuner.

    I searched EVERYWHERE for this manual. Finally someone at tech support e-mailed it to me. Be warned, though, it's 103 pages.
