trying to use a toshiba tv w/ coax hookup only and a zenith digital converter box w/ standard r/w/y plugs and coax in & out only. tried every possible hookup but tv doesn't recognize player

How do i connect the dvd/vcr combo to my television &/or satalite dish? FYI- our television is kinda old... (2000 & something is the year) so i'm hoping the tv wont hold us back..
