Trying to hook up my apex ld4088 to my (sony) dvd ...

Trying to hook up my apex ld4088 to my (sony) dvd home theater system together its and older DAV-HDX265 have the remote to that but trying to use a universal remote with the tv can i run the tv trough it has the buttens for it but dont have manul please help paulschenck2@yahoo.com thank you pictures would help not so good at this .
