I purchased a curtis mathes tv -- I have a vcr dvd...

I purchased a curtis mathes tv -- I have a vcr dvd combo and am trying to make it work. I have the cables -- yellow red white, green blue red, red white hooked up to the tv and vcr dvd combo but I can change the source on the side of the tv but not make it hold. How do I do this? tks Susan
