5 You will need to use the remote, I included a picture of it and labeled the important buttons you'll need. You should understand that the PLAY (UP) and STOP (DOWN) buttons are like UP and DOWN, and F.FWD is like OK/SELECT. (REW is like the BACK button.) First, you need to set the clock to the correct time. This is on page 18 of the manual. 1) IF YOU HAVE NOT SET THE CLOCK BEFORE press the MENU button twice to reach the main menu. IF YOU HAVE SET THE CLOCK BEFORE press the MENU button once to reach the main menu. 2) CLOCK SET may appear first. If not, press PLAY to scroll up or press STOP to scroll down to search the menu for it. Press the F. FWD button to select it. 3) Set the month: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to select the month. Press F.FWD to select it. 4) Set the day: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to select the day. Press F.FWD to select it. 5) Set the year: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to select the year. Press F.FWD to select it. The day of the week will appear automatically. 6) Set the hour: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to select the hour. Press F.FWD to select it. 7) Set the minute: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to select the hour. Press F.FWD to select it. 8) Set AM or PM: press the PLAY or STOP button to select AM or PM. Press F.FWD to select it. (If you ever need to go back one step, press the REW button.) To TIME RECORD. This is on page 20 of the manual. 1) Insert a VHS with its safety tab intact. 2) Press the MENU button. 3) Use PLAY and STOP (up and down) to select TIMER PROGRAMMING, then press F.FWD to select. The set up screen is displayed. If you ever need to go back one step, press the REW button. 4) Set the program number (1-7). Press the PLAY or STOP button repeatedly to select a program number, just select any number that is flashing. Then press the F.FWD button. (You can program the VCR to remember 7 programs, they're like memory slots. 7 specific dates-times-shows to record. You can record one show in program number 1, record another show in program number 2, etc. This is useful if you want to record TV series'.) 5) Set the frequency of the recording: Use the PLAY and STOP buttons to select how often you want this program to record, then press F.FWD. 6) Set the date you want to record: use PLAY and STOP to set the month, then press F.FWD. Use PLAY and STOP to set the day, then press F.FWD. 7) Set the start time of the recording: use PLAY and STOP to set the hour, then press F.FWD. Use PLAY and STOP to set the minute, then press F.FWD. Use PLAY and STOP to select AM or PM, then press F.FWD. 8) Set the time when you want the recording to stop: use PLAY and STOP to set the hour, then press F.FWD. Use PLAY and STOP to set the minute, then press F.FWD. Use PLAY and STOP to select AM or PM, then press F.FWD. 9) Set the channel number of the show you want to record: press the PLAY and STOP buttons repeatedly to find the correct channel number, then press the F.FWD button. (IF YOU ARE CONNECTED TO A CABLE BOX OR SATELLITE BOX: set the channel to 3 or 4 (whichever one you have to watch cable/satellite on). You have to leave the cable/satellite box on during the timer recording, and you have to have it on the correct channel the show will be on.) 10) Set the tape speed: use PLAY and STOP to select SP, press F.FWD. SP means Standard Play and will work just fine. To exit from the set up screen, press the CLEAR button. When you have finished programming, press the TIMER SET button on the VCR to activate the timer, the TIMER SET light will turn on. (I couldn't find a TIMER SET button on the remote, it's only on the player itself.) When the recording is finished, the TIMER SET light will flash. Press the TIMER SET button, then press the VCR/TV button to select the VCR position, then use the DVD/VHS player as usual. If you want to use the DVD/VHS player as usual until the time for the recording, press the TIMER SET button so that the TIMER SET light disappears. Press the VCR/TV button to select the VCR position, and use the DVD/VHS player as usual. If you want to cancel a scheduled timer recording or happen to fill up programs 1-7 and need to erase one, follow steps 1-4. When you're on the program number you want to erase, just press the REW button. If there is a power failure or the DVD/VCR is unplugged for more than 30 seconds, the clock and all timer settings will be erased. I think one of the main things is that when you set up a recording and you walk away from the VCR, the TIMER SET light needs to be on (by pressing the TIMER SET button on the player itself). Ask me any questions if you need something explained better. I hope this helps you.
