Question About Hitachi VCR None

Hi, we have this VCR, and it is currently connected directly to the TV via a scart lead, and to a cable box via a scart lead. The cable is then also connected to the tv via scart. We cannot, however, record off the cable. We have a hitachi TV as well, but on no channel does it seem to record off the cable. Is there any solution you know of?
