Im haveing trouble with my tv Insgnia RS-RCO1G-09 ...

Im haveing trouble with my tv Insgnia RS-RCO1G-09 got TV from father in law who used cable remote to run tv. Now Ive got tv and Im trying to use orginal remote but not woking. Has new batteries and the power light comes on when buttons are puched but nothing else is working. Have manuelly shut off tv but after 5 min the tv comes back on. can you help
