I just brought a 24 inch INSIGNIA LCD TV/DVD combo...

I just brought a 24 inch INSIGNIA LCD TV/DVD combo --I can't get the TV to scan channels to synch up with my cable box...What am I doing wrong? I selected MENU - selected channels, cable-answered all questions-the final instructions directed me to start the channel scan by pressing enter--no results.
