Menu button...

I am not sure if I programmed correctly. I have a Zenith VCR and a Sony TV. I have coded both of them with individual codes that were on the list but when I press the menu button to setup and program the VCR nothing happens. The TV goes fuzzy when I have the VCR on and I cannot bring up the menu to set the VCR to program.
