I can connect and record but only the channel the cable box is tuned to. Can I program the JVC recorder to record while I watch another program or am I stuck with having to record the channel the cable is on? Before we connected the Motorola were where able to do that. Thank you.

5 It's like using a VCR to control your TV set. The set must be tuned to an "open" channel (usually CH 3 or 4) to communicate with the VCR and show what ever tape the VCR is playing. The VCR has its own tuner so you can set it to record any TV channel. Now, with the new Motorola receiver acting as the tuner for your TV set And for your VCR, you can only view or watch the channel the Motorola box has selected. So both your VCR and your TV must always be tuned to CH 3 (or 4 in some locations) in order to receive whatever channel the Motorola box is set to receive. If you switch the TV or VCR to any other channel you disconnect it from the digital receiver/tuner and get no signal at all because the former analog signals are gone.

5 I should have mentioned, you can still record things on your VCR without the TV set playing. Once you have programmed the VCR (remember to CH3 only) and set the channel you want on the Motorola digital receiver, you can switch off the TV set (only the TV itself not the cable box). The VCR will work the way it always has, turning on at the preset time and off at the preset time, with or without the TV being on. But the cable tuning box must be left on the channel you want to record.

5 To solve the problem of how to listen to one TV channel while recording another channel with a digital cable box, you must have a second TV set and a second digital receiver/converter. Otherwise you can only record the channel being viewed on a single TV and converter box system.
