Trying to set up DVD/VHS Recorder to TV thru cable...

Trying to set up DVD/VHS Recorder to TV thru cable box. Directions tell me to set up Recorder on menu of TV but cannot find correct channel to do that. Have scrolled through all but to no avail? Thank you.
