Question About JVC VCR JVC Digital VHS VCR

How do I program my HR-DX42U to record at a future time? Do I need a special remote? I bought this unit at a thrift store and have been able to set the time etc with my universal remote but no luck with timed recording except for start now. Thanks for your help.
