Question About LG Electronics DVD Player DP170
repair...

it doesn´t read dvd´s. I plays music cd´s, computer cds but it won´t read a dvd disc. when I insert a dvd disc it spins a little bit and then it stops and it doesnt recognize the disc. what is the problem? can it be fix?

5 I've got the same problem. Won't play DVD's but excepts all other discs. I suspected the laser power has gone down, so I made some enquiries about replacing the laser unit, Melb. LG service agent has them for $45. I had a quick look at the unit with the door open and discovered 2 adjusting POTS next to the lens. If I moved the one furthest away from the lens anti-clockwise by 1/8th of a turn the unit started reading/playing DVD's again. Hope this helps? Give it a go yourself, but be careful the adj pot is fragile and needs a very small jewllers star screwdriver, what have you got to loose.
