5 This is probably the way it is meant to be done, so great comment. How do I grade this at 5 stars? After clicking on the first it wouldn't go further.

5 My LG 62" DLP is over three years old and lost picture and sound last week. It had standby power but it would not go to the full power up state. The standby light would flash orange for a while and then go back to red. No other warning lights had come on prior to the failure. A search of internet forums suggested the lamp may be the problem and most said it could be replaced easily by yourself and avoid an expensive service call. I live 30km from the nearest repairer so was willing to try a DIY replacement without any inside knowledge of the set. If the lamp was not the problem it would have been needed soon anyway. A new lamp was ordered on-line from Bigwarehouse Spares and cost $A229 including 10% GST. It was ordered on 27 Nov 08 and received by mail on 2 Dec 08. It was fitted on 3 Dec 08 and the set resumed working again so we were delighted with the outcome. I bought a manual but the lamp fitting instructions are not in it. Brief instructions for a similar set were found on the internet but an update of these is needed for those who have not tried this before. The lamp is used in several sets and is described as Lamp 120/1.3 E23 0.4a 120w Sub assy 6212B22002C. It is about 100mm dia and has a power cable and plug connected. The only tool needed is a good long magnetic Philips head screwdriver and some additional lighting. Cotton gloves are recommended to be worn when handling the lamp. Procedure: 1. Remove access cover located behind the On/Off switch at the bottom of the rear cover. Held on by 2 screws. 2. Behind the cover is a metal box with a handle that protects the back of the lamp. Remove the 3 securing screws and pull the box clear with the handle. 3. You can now see the lamp that is secured by 3 clamps with a screw in each and the cable that has the plug secured with two screws. 4. Remove the cable plug screws and pull out the plug. Then remove the lamp clamp screws and lift the lamp clear. 5. Fit the new lamp in the reverse sequence above. Once you get the clamps on the lamp the procedure goes quickly. It took me a while to get the clamps on as space is restricted. I needed to tape the screws to the tip of the driver to position the five lamp screws as my screwdriver was not quite up to this task.

3 Doug has explained the correct replacement procedure very well. I would like to add that I had the exact same issue and foud it very difficult to remove the globe due to space, I removed all screws except the ones that hold the lamp clips in place and gave the whole casing a slight tug. It all came out in one unit which meant I could take it to a well lit area and had the globe changed within 3 minutes.
