I was able to saw the tv with the vcr-dvd on with my older vcr which used the coaxial cables. When it died, the new one used the colored connectors and would not allow me to watch the tv without the vcr being on. I assumed that I needed a vcr with a coaxial connection, so I bought a used one. Same problem- no tv without the vce being on. This time when I turn the vcr off, I get a loud electrial pop. I've tried turning the vcr unit buttoms on and off off both of the remotes.
