Question About Magnavox DVD Recorder MRV640

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO SET UP THE REMOTE. I BOUGHT IT SEPARATE AND IT DOES NOTHING BUT VOLUME ^? TOTAL DUD. I CAN'T ENTER CODE NADA. SO? I CAN'T RECORD, DOO-DAH. I HAVE THE MANUAL FOR THE RECORDER BUT IT DOESN'T SAY MUCH FOR A DEAD REMOTE.
