having problems hooking up with direct tv

0 I bought that model 7 years ago and it's working fine, had to buy a new remote for it a few years ago. Lately, the brightness has decreased and is still decreasing, especially with the upper channels and according to the manual brightness is adjusted with the original remote. Any ideas on how to adjust brightness without remote? On the original remote is has a PICTURE button which my remote doesn't have
