I have a Mitsubishi hs-359ur which has a lot of unclearness on playback of both picture and audio (unreadable close caption at times), I'd been playing very old tapes (Twin Peaks) which caused it.

0 Status - 2 years later: I could only play sp for a while but later on was able to use lp - ep has the same problem described above. WARNING beware of old tapes (the drawback of VCRs). This model of Mitsubishi is a good one - I use it now with my TR-40 D to A converter box that acts as a timer /tuner for my analog RCA 20" TV. It's still a real joy fast forwarding thru commercials. I know this site is for manuals but thought I'd complete what I'd already written.i
