there is a black rectangle that appears on my screen. this comes and goes. what is the cause of this

0 I have purchased this tv from a friend. No paper work with it and I get this black box in the middle of the screen, sometimes colored letters, sometimes just a black box. I went into parental controls and took the controls off. now I get the black box and the tv shuts off about every 5 minutes. Help????
