5 I've had Dish Network for almost 20 years. Their programming is very proprietary and you can't use a VCR or DVD to record anything. You can plug an external USB 2.0 or higher hard drive with 1 to 3 TB of available storage. You can then offload media from their Dish Hopper to offline storage. But you can't unplug that drive from the Hopper and play it on a computer or another TV, it needs the Hopper to read the anti-copyright instructions.
