I acquired a sylvania dv220sl8a VCR/DVD combo play...

I acquired a sylvania dv220sl8a VCR/DVD combo player? How do I connect it with a Magnavox TV. I have the cable with the red white and yellow colors. I do not have the remote. I tried to connect it but did not get a picture. What am I doing wrong. Please help.
