My daughter goes to college they have free cable she has a converter box said you could hook it up to cable its a magnavox but it doesn't work? Her tv is not digital

0 No, it will only convert clear digital signals back to analog that are broadcast over the air waves [digital tv from an antenna]. The cable companies scramble all their digital signals to force you to rent their digital boxes. Greed is the operative word here [;-(
