I recieved this dvd recorder as a gift to replace my old liteon dvd recorder. The panasonic doesn't seem to play pal dvds. Is there a code to allow playing pal dvds? If not, I will have to keep my old dvd play hooked up to play 1/2 of my dvds which is kind of stupid and defeats the purpose of getting this new dvd recorder. It's amazing that the cheap dvd players seem to play both formats, but not this one. The reason for buying this one was because it had a optical output for DTS. I noticed that most of the cheap dvd players/burmers do not have on, just a coaxel output (like my liteon dvd burner). This isn't asking to break a code to play region 2 disc, just to allow PAL discs to be played. (pal with no region code discs)

0 The core of these Panasonic DMRs is a custom subsidized production of the European Dreambox satellite tuner. It detects many types of DMCA data streams, and according to the firmware installed, grant or deny access to the media presented. To avoid legal persecution, they have to set it to disallow anything other than your own region to play the discs. Perhaps contacting Panasonic, and explaining your issue might get a specially made upgrade CD that will add the capability you seek.
