Panasonic DMR-ez47v won't start. Shows a series of 0's counting up and down, very briefly flashes "ch6" and buzzes the DVD drive motor ever so slightly, then does some more zeroes and ends by saying "BYE". Have tried the reset button and it also initiates the zeroes with the same result. Tried reseating all the cables and checked the tiny SMT fuses marked "N" on the DVD board, all OK.

0 I recorded the zeroes sequence and froze it to read out the text. It actually said "CH66. 2" rather than CH6. The total sequence took about 45 seconds after plugging the power cord in.

0 Fixed it! About 5 minutes after posting this I decided to take the desperate measure of reading the manual. On page 75, it describes a way to unfreeze the unit, simply by holding the power (1/0) button for 10 seconds. This miraculously brought the unit back to "HELLO" and it works fine now. When all else fails read the manual!
