I have a Flatscreen # 42PF9630A/37 without a remot...

I have a Flatscreen # 42PF9630A/37 without a remote. When I attached it to cable it would not work with their remote and I was advised that the input had to be set to "cable" for it to work. Is there a way to change the input manually or will a TV remote for this set be required?
