How do I Set up Picture in picture on Pioneer Pro-1130HD?...

I have had my Elite 1130HD for about 5 years but I have never been able to get the P-In-P to work. I currently use HTMI cables ininputs 1 & 3 for the Cablebox and an Apple TV box. I think that maybe I need to go to an analog Apple tv box to get use of a 2nd tuner? is that true or is there a work around for the HTMI inputs?
