the picture went out, what could be the problem?

5 I had the same thing happen. Took the back off to expose the boards and found a capacitor that was rounded on top. The one directly below it was the same kind, but had a flat top (the way capacitors should be!) I plugged it in and felt the rounded one getting warmer than the flat one so I figured that was my problem. I had to order it from Radio Shack online because they don't sell them there at the store. Cost me two dollars...plus seven dollars shipping. For less than ten dollars, I was all set. I borrowed a soldering iron and bought some solder (with resin in the center of the material) and did the job myself. I figured the tv was already shot, so I didn't have much to lose but my time and ten bucks. Voila...it works!
