when I hooked up my RCA dvd recorder there is no v...

when I hooked up my RCA dvd recorder there is no video, only audio, I have no remote control. could it be some setting only accessed with remote or a bad video output? I have tried hdmi, s video, RCA and coaxial cables. I have also tried using the input button on the recorder manually.
