tv comes on about 5 second then back off.. then on...

5 If this is a projection screen tv, and you've had it for a while the most likely explanation is that the projection bulb is expired and needs to be replaced. If you have a television repair shop close by they can handle that repair for you. Keep in mind that the bulb is probably fine but the manufacturer builds into the tv an expiration on it anyway and the television will turn on for a short time and appear to work then shut off again.
