Laptop working with 22SB27UT ok at 1280x768, cloned... playing .wmv causes video output to stop on tv...

Sharp LC 22SB27UT Flat Panel Television - had to use Clone feature to send video output via svga output - 60Hz 1280x768 was highest resolution to make video work but that's ok What's confusing is that when trying to play a .wmv or .mpg file, the video just disappears from the TV... and it's still fine on the laptop...
