Digital Audio Input ?...

I wish to connect the audio output from an Apple Mac Mini to the model . The Mac Mini has a combination 3.5mm optical audio/headphone socket. HDMI iput (3) also has an 3.5mm audio input socket but I don't know if this is digital audio connection requiring a toslink cable. Standard 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male analogue cable does not work
