Using the TV as a monitor......

I am trying to use my TV as a monitor for a laptop. I have coneccted all the cables but get no picture. When I try to set up the TV using the menu, the PC option appears in a shaded gray and is not letting my do anything. How do I select the PC input mode on the TV? Thanks in advance Juan
