Question About Symphonic DVD Recorder SR90VE

I need to find out how to dub a copy of my VHS to DVD, the dub button says each type DVD I put in player can not be burned. I have tried -R.; +R; -RW; +RW. none work. HELP!!! need to make copies of old home video's for Christmas gifts.
