I don't have a house phone so I'm going to use the...

I don't have a house phone so I'm going to use the internet but, I don't have the adapter yet so, how do I get passed that part so i can finish setting it up so it's ready when i do get the adapter? Plus I might just want to watch a movie that's already on the hard drive.
