Question About Toshiba DVD Recorder D-R160SB

I have had the toshiba dr160sb for a few years bought it new never had any luck recoring with it, wount not accept the disc please advise which blanc disc i should use or recomend me to purchase a new machine, it plays pre recorded ok. I wait for your reply thank you Daf
