Can't program yamaha RX-V371 remote for other comp...

Can't program yamaha RX-V371 remote for other components (Comcast box, PS-3) I have gone through the steps 1-4 to register the components, looked up the codes and registered the units and got my two red blinks, indicating success. But the remote will not control the units. Did I miss something or do I have a defective remote?
