To record stereo and bilingual programmes (A2)
● Stereo programmes are automatically recorded in stereo on the
Hi-Fi audio track (with the normal audio track recording mixed
L and R channel sound).
● Bilingual programmes are automatically recorded in bilingual
on the Hi-Fi audio track. The main soundtrack is recorded on
the normal audio track.
To record NICAM stereo and bilingual programmes
The NICAM audio programme is recorded on the Hi-Fi audio
track, and the standard audio programme on the normal audio
track.
NOTES:
● If the quality of stereo sound being received is poor, the
broadcast may be received in monaural with better quality.
● Before playing back a programme recorded in stereo, or a
bilingual programme, refer to “Selecting Soundtrack” (
੬ 6).
S-VHS (Super VHS), S-VHS ET or VHS Recording
Mode
This VCR can record in S-VHS (Super VHS), S-VHS ET or VHS.
● To record in S-VHS:
Set “S-VHS” to “ON” (
੬ 12). Then, insert a cassette marked
“S-VHS”. The S-VHS indicator lights up on the display panel.
The S-VHS recording mode is selected.
● To record in S-VHS ET on a VHS cassette:
Set “S-VHS ET” to “ON” (
੬ 11). Then, insert a cassette marked
“VHS”. The S-VHS indicator lights up on the display panel.
● To record in VHS:
Insert a cassette marked “VHS”.
Set “S-VHS ET” to “OFF” (
੬ 11).
● To record in VHS on a S-VHS cassette:
Insert a cassette marked “S-VHS”. The S-VHS indicator lights up
on the display panel. Then, set “S-VHS” to “OFF” (
੬ 12). The
S-VHS indicator goes off.
The VHS recording mode is selected.
NOTE:
When playing back a tape that has been recorded in S-VHS or
S-VHS ET, the S-VHS indicator lights up on the display panel
regardless of the “S-VHS ET” (
੬ 11) or “S-VHS MODE” (੬ 12)
setting.
Up to 8 timer recording programmes can be made.
Before starting:
● Set the clock properly. (
੬ 13)
● Set “COLOUR SYSTEM” to the appropriate mode. (
੬ 12)
● Load a cassette with the record safety tab intact.
NOTES:
● PDC recording is not possible in Central and Eastern Europe.
● If all the 8 programmes have already been set, “PROGRAM
FULL” appears on the screen.
● If the clock is not set, “CLOCK MUST BE SET” appears on the
screen.
● If there is a conflict in the timer schedule and one programme
overlaps with another, the programme starting earlier or
programme with the lower programme number will be
recorded.
● After timer recording is completed, the recorder turns off
automatically.
● If the tape reaches its end during timer recordings, the recording
stops and “
#”, “
⅜” and “
$” on the display panel blink. Press
# to disengage timer, then press 0 on the recorder to eject
the cassette or press 1 then press 3 to rewind the tape.
● You can programme the timer recording while a regular
recording is in progress; the menu screens will not be recorded.

Timer Programming
The SHOWVIEW numbers are the numbers next to the programme
in most TV listing.
A Press PROG to access the Timer Programming Set screen.
B Press RT to place the pointer next to
“S
HOWVIEW“, then press OK or . The
S
HOWVIEW NO. screen appears.
C Press the appropriate number keys to
input the S
HOWVIEW number, then press
OK. The S
HOWVIEW program screen
appears.
● If the number you entered is invalid,
“ERROR” appears on the screen. Press
& and input a valid S
HOWVIEW
number.
● Make sure the channel position
number you wish to record is displayed; if “TV PROG” displays
“––”, set the channel position number correctly. Press PR R/T
to input the channel position number on which your recorder
receives the station. Then press OK.
● To set the tape speed, press p(SP/LP).
● To set the VPS/PDC mode, press VPS/PDC (number key “7”).
● To change the stop time, press STOP / (number keys “2”
and/or “5”).
● To timer-record daily (Monday–Friday) or weekly serials, press
DAILY (number key “8”) or WEEKLY (number key “9”). Pressing
the button again makes the “DAILY” or “WEEKLY” display
disappear.
● To change the channel position number, press PR R/T.
D Press OK or PROG.
E Press #. The recorder turns off automatically and “#” is
displayed on the display panel.
To timer-record a satellite broadcast using the S
HOWVIEW system:
A Set “L-2 SELECT” to “A/V” (੬ 10).
B Perform steps 1 – 5.
C Set the satellite receiver to the appropriate channel before the
selected programme begins.
D Leave the satellite receiver’s power on.
