Toshiba D-R1 DVD Player User Manual

Technology & Benefits
Super Multi-Drive Recorder
DVD-RAM is a high-capacity, high-performance optical disk that allows data to be
read, written, and erased more than 100,000 times. It is designed to work exactly
like a floppy disk, allowing users to copy and delete files from it and use it to run
programs. DVD-R discs are write-once media that are currently compatible with most
DVD-Video players sold today. The D-R1 also offers additional flexibility with
rewritable DVD-RW media used in some personal computer drives.
- Built-in DVD-R capability offers compatibility with virtually all
DVD-Video players.
- Record up to 8 hours of programming using a double-sided 9.4GB
DVD-RAM disc.
ColorStream Pro
Component Video Outputs
These outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player
to a component video equipped progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized
with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts—like video noise, dot crawl,
and flicker—are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed
picture with unequaled color purity.
Digital Cinema Progressive (3:2 Pulldown)
Delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such
as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution.
Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation
When recording, the D-R1 automatically captures the first video frame and displays it
as the chapter mark. Users can then choose to designate chapter marks with custom
screen captures, or Thumbnails, of their own choice for future reference.
(E.A.M.) Enhanced Audio Mode
This feature includes three modes: NORMAL (off mode), 3-D (virtual surround sound
enhancement from multichannel content), and DIALOGUE Expander (which enhances
center channel [dialogue] frequencies during playback of multichannel content).
Benefit of DIALOGUE: Great for “late night” listening when volume levels are low
but dialogue intellibibility is of concern.
QSound™ Virtual Surround Sound
Provides a simulated surround sound effect from sources that contain only a stereo
soundtrack. Convenient when playing older DVD films or for use with home theaters
not equipped with multi-channel playback compatibility.
Coaxial & TosLink
Digital Audio Outputs
Sends the audio signal to an audio/video receiver in its digital form allowing access
to the Dolby Digital
/DTS
track encoded on the DVD disc.
Time Slip
This feature allows the user to begin watching a recording that is already in progress.
A Time Slip feature lets you 'pause' a live recording and then return to it later.
During playback of both modes, a bar graph can be displayed on-screen depicting
the 'progress' or location of the playback signal with regards to the real time record-
ed signal.
Front Panel A/V & IEEE1394DV Inputs
There are composite audio & video inputs, as well as RCA L/R inputs on the front
panel of the unit for ease of camcorder dubbing. Additionally, an IEEE1394 'Firewire'
jack is also available from the front panel for interfacing compatible digital video
camcorders.
VCR Plus+™ Timer Recording
The DR-1 features a 181-channel cable compatible tuner and a 2-month, 32-event
timer programming functionality. Users may input their own program data, or take
advantage of the built-in Gemstar VCR+ technology for simple timer event program-
ming. Battery Backup ensures that you will not lose your programming during power
outages, and the XDS Auto Clock Set function ensures you player will never blink
12:00 again.
Create Custom Play Lists
The D-R1 allows the user to generate and save custom playlists using any titles
and/chapters. Each compilation of desired footage can be separately titled and edit-
ed (for removal of commercials or other unwanted sections) and then seamlessly
played back for review.
