if the quill return spring uncoils unexpect-
edly. Always wear safety glasses and heavy
leather gloves when adjusting the quill return
spring tension.
To adjust the quill return spring tension:

Note: It is important to keep a good grip on
the spring lock cover and to not let the spring
tang slip out of its slot on the cover during
this step. Letting go of the cover will cause
the spring to rapidly uncoil causing an injury
hazard, and it will be very difficult to properly
re-coil the spring within the cover.
