Resetting
0 It normally takes about 40 seconds to prepare before you
can start any operations. Operations cannot be performed
during this period.
0 If the display does not seem to disappear, reset the unit.
Press STOP/CLEAR (o) and STANDBY/ON on the unit
simultaneously until ARESETTINGB is displayed on the front
display panel.
Or pull out the power plug, wait around 5 seconds and then
re-insert.
The unit is automatically repairing recorded data that is
unusual. Wait until the time display is displayed. Repairing
may take more than 1 hour.
It can be removed by force using the following method.
A Press STOP/CLEAR (o) and STANDBY/ON on the unit
simultaneously for more than 2 seconds until ARESETTINGB
is displayed on the front display panel.
B Press and hold OPEN/CLOSE (M) on the unit until the disc
tray opens. (Takes about 30 seconds.)
C After removing the disc, press OPEN/CLOSE (M) to close
the disc tray. (The unit will turn off.)
General
The power cord is disconnected from the socket.
Channel cannot be changed during recording.
0 The setting of the remote control code (1/2/3/4) is
inappropriate. [ P94]
0 The batteries may be depleted.
0 Remove the batteries, re-insert after more than 5 minutes
and then try again. Alternatively, replace with new batteries.
The external input channel AF-1B setting is inappropriate.

Set to the following setting. Setup Menu ASUPERIMPOSEB =
AOFFB [ P102] a
0 Child lock has been set.
Cancel the child lock. [ P93]
0 There are cases when the operation is prohibited, depending
on the disc.
0 If the unit cannot be operated at all, turn off the unit, and
then on again. (Lightning or static electricity may cause
malfunction of the unit.)
Cancel tray lock using the following method.
While holding STOP/CLEAR (o), press OPEN/CLOSE (M) on
the unit when the unit is in standby mode. AUNLOCKB is
displayed on the front display panel when tray lock is released.
Playback
0 Check if the video input is displayed.
Switch the TV (AV TV) with video/audio input terminals to
the external input connected to this unit.
0 Check the output format of the image. Press OUTPUT
FORMAT for more than 3 seconds and the current format
will be displayed on the front display panel. To revert back
to the standard setting, press OUTPUT FORMAT repeatedly
while the output format is displayed on the front display
panel. Then press ENTER after AOUT 576IB is displayed.
Check the output format of the image. Refer to the above
mentioned for checking method.
0 Place the disc on the disc tray with the playback surface
facing down.
0 A disc not compatible with this unit is loaded. [ P12]
0 The disc loaded is dirty.
Use a soft cloth to clean. [ P13]
0 The disc loaded is badly warped or scratched.
Images are distorted at the point where the playback
speed changes. It is not a malfunction.
For HDD, set Setup Menu ALIVE MEMORYB [ P99] I to
other than AOFFB.
For DVD, Live Memory Playback cannot be performed other
than on DVD-RAM discs. Use a DVD-RAM disc. [ P12]
APLEASEB and AWAITB display alternately, or
ARESETTINGB blinks for a long time after the power
plug is inserted. Is it a malfunction?
Not functioning while AWAITB blinks on the front
display panel.
The disc tray does not open.
No power is supplied to the unit.
The channel cannot be changed.
The remote control does not work.
Dubbing from the Video Cassette Recorder is not
possible.
The on-screen text displayed when playing back on
this unit is recorded during dubbing.
The unit does not operate.
ALOCKB is displayed on the front display panel, and
the disc cannot be removed.
No images on the TV screen.
Images do not appear on the TV screen or images are
distorted.
0 Playback does not start or stops immediately after
pressing PLAY.
0 ANO DISCB is displayed on the front display panel.
Images are distorted when you start high speed
search.
RetroActive Playback does not start.
Live Memory Playback does not start.
