TV Ratings
V-CHIP enables parents to prevent their children from
watching inappropriate material on TV. V-CHIP reads the rat-
ings for most TV programming (except news, sports, unedit-
ed movies, and Emergency Broadcast System signals), then
denies viewing if the program’s rating meets the limitations
you select. A “PROTECTED PROGRAM by ...” message
appears on the screen. You must select a different TV chan-
nel or play a Disc instead.
V-CHIP affects only TV channels. It does not block DVD play.
To block DVD viewing, change the PARENTAL feature. See
pages 34-35.
TV programming is rated by the Motion Picture Association
of America (MPAA) or according to the Television Parental
Guidelines. In order to block any inappropriate programming,
set your limits in both places (MPAA RATING and TV RAT-
ING).
