No sound or distorted sound
from built-in speakers

\Disc is damaged or dirty (page 65).
\Disc is paused or in slow motion play

\Volume control is set to minimum.
\Headphones are plugged in.
\Optical fiber cable is connected.
\LCD screen is closed.
DVDs and CDs play at different
volumes
\This is normal.
No sound or distorted sound
when connected to a TV, AV
amplifier, etc.
\For some discs, 96 kHz digital output of
linear PCM audio signals is prohibited.
\Connection cables are not securely
plugged in or not connected (pages 12,
53-55).
\Connection plugs or jacks are dirty.
\DTS audio digital output is connected
to a non-compatible AV amplifier, etc.
No picture from the LCD screen
(PDV-LC20 only)
\Monitor is set to OFF (page 60).
\The player is set to AV input (page 55).
Power automatically turns off
\When using the battery, if a disc is
paused for more than 5 minutes, the
player automatically stops. If the disc is
stopped for more than 5 minutes, the
player automatically goes into standby
to conserve power.
Player gets hot
\This is normal.
Note
The player may stop operating properly due
to static electricity or other external
influences. In this case, unplugging the
power cord then plugging it back in will
usually resolve the problem. If not, consult
your nearest Pioneer service center.
LCD screen (PDV-LC20 only)
With LCD screens, a few picture elements
may be black or shine a particular color.
This is normal.
