1400 Series Granulators Chapter 7: Appendix 39 of 43
Cleaning the Feed Roll Assembly
Disconnect the main air line and electrical power. For normal vacuum cleaning, removing
the front plate from the feed roll assembly will provide adequate access to the feed roll area.
However, it may be necessary to remove any attachments assembled to the front plate. If feed
rolls must be removed, follow the procedure for disassembling the feed rolls in the next
section.
Removal of Rolls
Use the following procedure to remove the feed rolls, either for cleaning or for replacing the
bearings:
When re-assembling the feed rolls, be sure that there is no interference between
the stripper and the feed roll.
1. Disconnect the main airline to the feed roll assembly cylinders and all electrical
power to the machine.
2. Remove the guards from the feed roll drive assembly and remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the infeed hand guard.
4. Remove the entire feed roll assembly and place it rear face down on a flat work area.
Remove the front/top plate.
5. Remove the timing belt sheave from the driven roll.
6. Disconnect and remove the two air cylinders.
7. Loosen the bearings from the feed roll shafts.
8. Remove end plate from the non-drive end.
9. Remove the two feed rolls.
Adjusting the Clearance Between the Feed Roll and Stripper Bar
The clearance between rolls should be constant across the entire length of both rolls. The
stripper should be set .005” minimum from the feed roll. Use the following procedure to
adjust the clearance between the feed roll and stripper bar:
1. Disconnect the main airline to the feed roll assembly cylinders and all electrical
power to the machine.
2. Remove the access covers from the front of the feed roll assembly.
3. Open the feed rolls and secure with wood blocks in the full open position.
4. Adjust the stripper mounting bolts to adjust feed roll/stripper clearance.
