Connecting
This chapter explains how to connect the DPS-10.5 to
your other AV components.
Read the manuals supplied with your AV components.
Don’t connect the power cord until you’ve completed
all audio and video connections.
Optical Digital Outputs
The DPS-10.5’s optical digital out-
put sockets have dust caps for keep-
ing out dust and dirt when they’re not
in use. Remove the cap before insert-
ing an optical plug, and push the plug
in all the way to make a good connec-
tion. Keep the dust cap in a safe place
for future use.
RCA AV Connection Color Coding
RCA-type AV connections are usually color coded: red,
white, and yellow. Use red plugs to connect right-chan-
nel audio inputs and outputs (typically labeled “R”). Use
white plugs to connect left-channel audio inputs and out-
puts (typically labeled “L”). And use yellow plugs to
connect composite video inputs and outputs.
Push each plug in all the way to
make a good connection (loose
connections can cause noise or
malfunctions).
•To prevent interference, keep
audio and video cables away
from power cords and speaker cables.

AV Cables & Connectors
Video
HDMI
HDMI connections can carry uncompressed,
standard or high definition digital video and up
to eight channels of digital audio, for the best
picture and sound quality.
Component
video
Component video connections separate the
luminance (Y) and color difference signals (P
R
,
P
B
) and provide picture quality better than
S-Video and composite video. (Some manufac-
turers label their component video sockets
slightly differently.)
The DPS-10.5’s HD VIDEO OUT COMPO-
NENT sockets are BNC connectors.
S-Video
S-Video connections provide better picture
quality than composite video.
Composite video
Composite video is commonly used on TVs,
VCRs, and other video equipment. Use only
dedicated composite video cables.
