4 Subtitle Language
Select the language which is used to show subtitles when
playing back a DVD.
1 When the SET UP group “DVD Settings” is selected,
press or to select “4 Subtitle Language” and
then press SELECT.
2 Press or to select the preferred language and
then press SELECT.
Factory default setting: Auto
Notes
If you play back a disc which does not have the selected
language, the priority language on the disc is used.
You can also change the subtitle language, or turn off or on
subtitles by using SUBTITLE and OFF/ON only while playing
back a disc on which two or more subtitle languages are
recorded. (Refer to page 38 for details.)

Subtitles are not displayed.
Another language can be selected by
entering the code number for the
language. (Refer to “Entering a language
code number” on page 47 for details.)
When “1 Auto” is selected in step 2, the subtitle
language is automatically selected as follows.
When the disc is played back with the audio language
selected on the item “5 Audio Language” (on page 49),
the subtitles of the same language are selected and the
display of them is turned off.
When the disc is not played back with the audio language
selected on the item “5 Audio Language” (on page 49)
because the language is not recorded on the disc:
* If the disc has the subtitles of the same language, the
subtitles are displayed.
* If the disc does not have the subtitles of the same
language, the subtitles are displayed with the priority
language on the disc.
