Compatibility Of Cassettes And Recording Mode
*To record on the VHS cassette with S-VHS quality, use the
S-VHS ET function (
page 41).
NOTES:
The D-VHS (MTP), S-VHS, S-VHS ET and VHS mode recordings
are possible with this VCR.
To record in the D-VHS mode, use a D-VHS cassette.
To record in the S-VHS/VHS mode, you can use a D-VHS,
S-VHS or VHS cassette.
To record in S-VHS mode on D-VHS tapes:
Press [D-VHS] to turn off the [D-VHS] indicator. Then, set “S-
VHS MODE” to “ON” ( page 40).
To record in VHS mode on D-VHS tapes:
Press [D-VHS] to turn off the [D-VHS] indicator. Then, set “S-
VHS MODE” to “OFF” ( page 40).

Various connections for editing tapes
The following three methods can be used for editing tapes.
VHS to S-VHS editing (VIDEO-VIDEO connection):
Although the picture quality is inherently limited by the
original VHS quality, the edited tape has better picture
quality than those made by VHS-to-VHS editing.
S-VHS to VHS editing (VIDEO-VIDEO connection):
Since the original source is recorded in S-VHS mode, the
edited tape has better picture quality than those made by
VHS-to-VHS editing.
S-VHS to S-VHS editing (S-VIDEO connection):
Original picture quality of S-VHS made can be duplicated
with minimal picture degradation. This is the best editing
method you can use on S-VHS VCRs.
To use a Master Edit Control-equipped JVC
NTSC camcorder
If you are using a JVC NTSC camcorder equipped with
the Master Edit Control, you can control the VCR from
the camcorder.
1 Access the “ADDITIONAL” screen ( page 39),
then set “AV COMPU-LINK” to “OFF” after
performing step 6 on page 20.
The [REMOTE PAUSE/AV COMPULINK]
connector works as a Remote Pause connector
when “AV COMPU-LINK” is set to “OFF”.
For details, refer to the camcorder’s instruction
manual.
2 Engage the VCR’s recording pause mode.
Accidental erasure prevention
To prevent accidental recording on a recorded cassette,
remove its record safety tab.
To record on it later, cover the hole with adhesive tape.

Other useful functions for recording
You can also use the following functions for recording.
“V. Calibration” (S-VHS/VHS only) ( page 36)
When this function is set to “ON”, this VCR checks the
condition of the tape in use during playback and recording,
and compensates to provide the highest-possible pictures.
S-VHS Recording Mode ( page 40)
This VCR allows you to record on a D-VHS and S-VHS tape
with VHS picture quality.
S-VHS ET (page 41)
This function allows you to record on VHS tapes with S-VHS
picture quality. Tapes recorded using this function can be
played back on a VCR equipped with the S-VHS ET function.
NOTE:
When the channel is changed on the VCR;
The “STEREO” indication appears on the screen for about
5 seconds if the program is a stereo broadcast.
