Changing settings
[DVD-A] [DVD-V]
Digital output
Change these settings when you have connected equipment
through this units DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminals (OPTICAL or
COAXIAL).
Refer also to Common procedures ( page 30) and the Audio sec-
tion in Summary of settings ( page 31).
PCM Down Conversion
Select how to output the high-quality audio signals (sampling fre-
quencies of 96 kHz and 88.2 kHz) on discs that do not have copy-
right protection. Choose the settings to suit the equipment you have
connected.

The equipment cannot output signals of 88.2 kHz or more if the
setting is No and the equipment is unable to handle these
signals.

This setting allows the re-master settings ( page 23) to work on
the digital signals from CDs.

Choose this setting when you have connected equipment that
cannot handle signals of 88.2 kHz or more, as the equipment will
be unable to output audio when the re-master circuit is func-
tioning.
Note
Signals are down-sampled to either 48 kHz or 44.1 kHz despite the
above settings if they have a sampling frequency of 176.4 kHz or
more or are copyright protected.
Dolby Digital
Bitstream (Factory preset):
When you have connected a unit with a built-in Dolby Digital
decoder.
PCM:
When you have connected a unit that doesnt have a built-in Dolby
Digital decoder.

DTS Digital Surround
PCM (Factory preset):
When you have connected a unit that doesnt have a built-in DTS
decoder.

Bitstream:
When you have connected a unit with a built-in DTS decoder.

These changes to digital audio output must be made, other-
wise bitstream signals the decoder cannot handle will be out-
put. If these signals are output, noise will be output which
can cause harm to your ears and speakers.
