3-2 Operations for Nonlinear Editing (Operations in Cut Units)
3-2-3 Editing Modes
On the MAVE-F555, there are four editing mode which you can use for
different nonlinear editing operations.
INSERT mode
This is used for cut insertion or replacement.
See Section 3-2-4, “Cut Insertion/Replacement” (page 3-19).
OVERWRITE mode
This is used for cut overwriting. When performing nonlinear insert editing
with a VTR selected with RECORDER SELECT, please select the
OVERWRITE mode.

EXTRACT mode
This is used for deleting a specified section. After deleting, the duration is
reduced by the length of the specified section.

LIFT mode
This is used for deleting by replacing a specified section with BLACK/
MUTING data.
See Section 3-2-6, “Deleting a Cut” (page 3-34).
ASSEMBLE mode
This is used for performing Assemble editing with a VTR specified as the
Recorder.
Selecting an editing mode

• To select the INSERT mode, press the [ ] key.
• To select the OVERWRITE mode, press the [
] key.
• To select the EXTRACT mode, press the [
] key.
• To select the LIFT mode, press the [
] key.
• When you want to select the ASSEMBLE mode, hold down the SHIFT key
and press the V key to switch off the V, and A1 to A4 keys.
You can check the currently selected mode by the indicator above the key
lighting, and by the indication on the monitor screen connected to the
MONITOR OUT connector of the MAV-555.
