3-48 (E) Chapter 3 Operations for Linear/Nonlinear Editing
3-2 Operations for Nonlinear Editing (Operations in Cut Units)
2 Press the [
?b
] or [
B?
] key to jump to the IN point or OUT point of the
cut that you want to trim. To jump to the OUT point, hold down SHIFT
and press [
?b
]
or [
B?
].
After the jump you can confirm the channel of the cut point by viewing the
channel display area of the superimposed display.
For details see “List of Superimposed Indications” (page A-5).
Notes
• Without executing a cut jump, you can use the jog dial to move to a cut
point and start trimming. However, because an IN point for one channel
could be the same as an OUT point for another channel, if you use the jog
dial to move to the point, you may be able to edit only the IN point at the
jump point. If you want to trim an OUT point, hold down the SHIFT key,
press [
?b
] or [
B?
], and then perform a cut jump to the specified OUT
point.
• As an exception, you may be able to perform a cut jump with the [
B?
]
key (for details, see “Cut Jumping on a Recorder Port” (page 3-11)). If
you perform this operation trimming cannot be performed at the OUT
point of the cut at the end of the file. In order to trim the OUT point of the
cut at the end of a file, hold down the SHIFT key, press [
?b
] or [
B?
],
and then perform a jump to the specified OUT point, or use the jog dial to
move to the end of the file and then perform the subsequent operation.
3 Select the edit mode.
For details about how to select the edit mode, see “Selecting an editing
mode” (page 3-16).
4 Use the channel selection keys V, A1, A2, A3, or A4 to select the channel
for the cut that you want to trim. After you press the appropriate key for
the channel where you want to trim, the key lights.
Trimming functions only on each channel cut point (IN point or OUT
point). If trimming is attempted on any other channel, messages are
returned: “Trim on Illegal Channel” or “Not Cut Point”. Make sure that
you check the superimposed displayed to confirm the channel of the cut
point.
For details, see “List of Superimposed Indications” (page A-5).
5 Press the TRIM key. The indicator on the TRIM key lights and the
temporary file is created.
• With the temporary file open, if you selected the INSERT selected in
Step 3, press [
] and [ ] to light both keys, or if you selected the
OVERWRITE mode in Step 3, press [
] or [ ] to light both keys.
Operation is the same regardless of whether you press [
] or [ ].
• After pressing the TRIM key, the edit mode cannot be changed.
