This function allows you to record on VHS tapes with S-VHS picture quality. Tapes
recorded using this function can be played back on a VCR equipped with the S-VHS ET
function. The S-VHS indicator lights up on the front display panel when S-VHS ET is set
to ON.
NOTES:
Before recording, make sure that V. CALIBRATION is set to ON (
pg. 54).
You cannot activate the S-VHS ET function...
while recording is in progress.
while timer-recording or Instant Timer Recording (
pg. 28) is in progress.
while Video Calibration (
pg. 54) is in progress.
S-VHS ET does not work with S-VHS tapes.
To keep the highest quality recording and playback pictures over a long period of time, S-VHS recording
on S-VHS tapes is recommended.
Use of high grade tapes are recommended for S-VHS ET recordings.
On some tapes, picture quality will not improves even if the S-VHS ET function is used. Check the
recording quality before you start important recordings.
You can play back S-VHS ET recordings on most of S-VHS VCRs and of VHS VCR equipped with SQPB
(S-VHS QUASI PLAYBACK) function. (Notice some VCRs are not compatible with this function.)
While playing back a tape recorded with this function on some tapes, noise may appear. (If playback
picture becomes blurred or interrupted, use a cleaning cassette.)
During special effect playback (
pg. 31), noise may appear. If special effect playback is performed
frequently on a tape recorded with this function, the tape may be damaged and picture may be
deteriorated.

When this function is set to OFF, only : appears on the front display panel.
NOTE:
Even if you set DISPLAY to OFF, each item appears on the front display panel in the following
cases;
when the timer-recording is in progress/in the timer standby mode (
pg. 34 41)
in the satellite Auto Recording standby mode (
pg. 62)
during Plug & Play setting (
pg. 9)
when you press REC (
) twice for the ITR (
pg. 28)
when you set the remote control code (
pg. 71)
when you press DISPLAY, the current status appears for a few seconds.
